This is a really great post. I’ve never heard it put so succinctly, but the idea that people “pay for the medium” is very true. Our society has begun to shift towards an economy of digital and virtual artifacts and this does (or should) make them more widely available at a good price for consumers (and/or prosumers).

They still have plenty of buzz and hype and some growth but compared to FB and observing the broader trends they have failed to capitalize on anything interesting.

Re: the commenting – it was broken when you tried it because of something I did wrong on my blog. Should be better now.

Chris, I’m curious about this comment: “Twitter, on the other hand, seems to have continued to struggle to find its place. From simple SMS service, messaging bus of the web or media power house; this year they seemed to drop the ball on all fronts.” I’m using Twitter more than ever before and it’s certainly a useful tool for plenty of people I connect with. I’m seeing growth. I’m seeing them getting investment that represents high valuations. In what sense are they failing?

[P.S. This comments system is seriously confusing. I still don't know whether entering "My Website" as the login does what I think it might. It seems to present an awful lot of cruft just to add a couple sentences to the conversation. What is the benefit over WordPress' default name / email address / URL?]

I think Iinception was a great movie, and The Matrix also. I won’t be surprised when they deliver remakes of both in 2030 or so

I suspect that it has to do with money. People who loved the first one want to see what the second one is about. And they bring their kids. And is this tron a “re-imagining”? If not, then it’s even more about money – why hire writers to create a whole new thing when you can just re-film it, brag about how it’ll have new effects and rake in the dough, right?
